It’s Friday… An unbelievable week and a crazy one at that. When I look back, the heart of the matter is simple. Life’s dreams, achievements, and happiness is one thing, but the most important thing of all is not things but the people around us. How many times have you mentioned the words “I love you” to the one you love this week? I think I’ve only done it two dozen times. How about the friends around you? Have you told them how much you appreciate them? You can have anything in this world and all your success and achievement can turn to dust. For these are all temporary things. “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” ~ Matthew 6:19-21

On a week full of Mondays…

It gets really tough to carry on. You know the the law of bad things, they come in three’s. Of course that’s true and as usual, people are always the problem. Attitudes, preceptions, old-ways die hard. At a time where it’s normal to love things and use people, we ought to be loving people and using things. When all hope fades and you realize that you cannot change people nor have any hope of them changing, know that the only way change to people come about is from God. So have faith and believe… Hope, Faith and Love, and the greatest of these, is Love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)
So don’t wait to tell someone you love them, or you’re sorry or that they mean a lot to you… Life is short, what we leave behind is not monuments or achievements, but the lives we’ve changed or made a difference.

Film R.I.P.

Over a year ago, I wrote this (about film’s impending demise) while searching for a camera (film that is) for a friend. A year later, it was becoming really true. While Kodak stopped making it’s hallmark Kodachrome film in 2003, 2005 saw most of it’s film production grind to a halt. Fuji too. By the anniversary of that post, major manufacturers (like Konica-Minolta and Canon) were already cutting back production of film cameras (Nikon followed in early Jan 2006). By end of 2005, all major camera manufacturers had digital cameras in their lineup and that film cameras contributed negligible amounts to their revenues (like a few percentage points). With PMA 2006 coming soon, the end is finally in sight. With traditional film holdovers like Leica and Hasselblad moving over, 2006 is the digital year, of course I still think 2007 is the full-frame affordable DSLR year (by affordable I mean 20D pricing of course).

2thousand5 is probably one of the most amazing years that has gone by. I’ll miss a great friend but I’m happy for him because “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” (John 14:1-4).
At the threshold of the new year, in the middle of the journey of our life, remember that it’s not the destination that matters, nor how fast or slow we travel, nor who we are with at a particular moment, but it is the journey that matters most and how we make of that journey. How many lives have we enriched by sharing ourselves with them, giving them a shoulder to cry on, an ear to hear their darkest fears and hotest angers, sung them the song of the heart when they’ve lost all will to continue on, and most of all, given them your love.

Personally, 2thousand5 has been the watershed year of my life. Giving up the ghosts of the past, releasing them to God has been the greatest thing that I’ve done. The past that binds us, shackles us and prevent us from moving on; from living life.
As they say, the best things in life aren’t things and how blessed I feel right now is hard to put into words. Sometimes, in our shortsightedness, our wants and prayers seem unanswered but know that God who loves us more than we know, has something better in store… trust me on this one.
