What I need in a compact camera
When lugging a two kg DSLR and Lens is not an option, a good small camera with a clear, fast lens and low-noise and high-quality sensor is the key. Sadly no one makes one. Well, maybe except Sigma. The Sigma DP-1 is almost perfect… except for the fact that it has a fixed lens (a nice lens would be something like a 24-105 f4 lens but I can live with a 24-70 if it’s f2.8 ) and no Image stabilizer on the lens. Oh, of course, no movie mode. Yes, I know it’s a compact still camera but a 30fps widescreen (848 x 480 pixels) would be nice for the occasional movie clip. Well, here’s keeping my fingers crossed Canon’s new fangled CMOS factory costing billions will create something like this.

Finally, after 3.5 years, I swap out my aging PC for something swanky, blue and black aluminum.
So far, it’s a super lot faster, the same video taking 7 minutes to render versus 25 minutes, not to mention it’s almost inaudible! Whoot!

This little weird thingy is probably something rather interesting… a pocketable (compared to the S3 IS) tiny little stills camera, Ixus styling, and superb video capability to boot. The widescreen HDTV resolution video with stereo sound is what is amazing… plus you can use the zoom during the video! Check it here and here.

One old APC UPS, wire, 20A automotive fuse, pliers and some electrical tape. To acquire later: 2 used SLA automobile batteries, preferably 60A/hr or higher rating∗.
Prelimary test, 12V 6A/hr SLA battery.
Live test on a 12V 80A/hr SLA Battery!
∗ To calculate runtime, use A/hr rating x 12V = total wattage, divide by power consumption, allow 33% margin for inefficiencies plus you don’t want to run down a SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) battery which is a big no-no! For 80A/hr battery, you get about 960W which if you’re running about 100W of stuff, you should have at about 6hrs runtime.

Looks like Sony-Ericsson isn’t covering my phone hinge with warranty and is about to charge me RM280 to have it changed plus three working days! One day I can probably tolerate but I still have six weeks of warranty left and this is how they treat me?! I’m going over to Nokia as soon as the price of the N80 that I’ve been eyeing comes down a bit.
Hope it lasts till December or something.
In the mean time, it’s time to spend some major $$… on something big, non-portable, and well, I did say it is rather big right?
