The Digital Camera problem…

Well, maybe not a problem in itself but more like the fact that we all like super saturated, high-fidelity color images that by default, most Digital SLRs don’t output that kind of result. What does one do? The easy answer is do it in post! (post-processing that is) Obviously much easier when the photo is shot in RAW mode.

The photo below illustrates. Although I did not have the original RAW image, I had the full-sized JPEG and all processing was mostly curves, saturation and the channel mixer.

Two new Canons

Looks like Canon decided to update two more models. The S5 which replaces the S3 was the eagerly expected cam for PMA back in Feb but looks like it slipped till May. Personally, nothing really exciting actually since I’m looking at getting the TX1 instead.

A view to a village!

Partial panorama of Kampung Sinai Baru… a better one will need to wait. I shot the scene with a 24mm when I’ve should have used a 50mm to avoid some of the distortion and parallax errors when compositing.

A tower treat yesterday…

Amazingly, yesterday was the first time I was up at Menara KL (or KL Tower). Shockingly decorated in gaudy colors and bits of stuff, and the so-so food but the view was fantastic!

One interesting hybrid

This little weird thingy is probably something rather interesting… a pocketable (compared to the S3 IS) tiny little stills camera, Ixus styling, and superb video capability to boot. The widescreen HDTV resolution video with stereo sound is what is amazing… plus you can use the zoom during the video! Check it here and here.

One Dee Mark Three

Something to put on the Christmas list? I couldn’t care less about the 10 frames per second… but probably a few important things like ISO6400, live-preview, silent mode and most importantly, 14-bit A/D conversion are the big features. Oh, that little thingy on the side is the new Wi-Fi adapter.
