In 2003, 80Gb storage was pretty much enough for most photo scans. Afterall, you’d come back from a two week trip and end up with like 26 rolls of film. Since I scanned every single frame, I’d end up with like 936 frames which with compressed TIFF scans, they only consume about 12Gb (you’d normally average about 11-13mb per scan). Fast forward two years to 2005 and I’m finding that 200Gb is filling up fast. In 2004, I went on a two week trip with 2 1Gb cards but it became 3 1Gb cards in 2005 and I was averaging 1.5Gb a day which means that on a fortnight travel, I’ll have over 20Gb! So now, in 2006 with 4Gb cards which just means that the shoot rate just went up. And I don’t have my 5D yet! And Seagate just announced disks that achieve 2.5TB!
Running out of space…
Have storage, will travel with camera!
