Misc ramblings for a Tuesday

Well, it’s Tuesday.
I’m still waiting for a decision on my time-off for next week. I’ll probably force an answer by the end of the business day today. I also found out that the network at this particular logistics company has some blocking effects on Yahoo!’s messenger client.

The Harbin project (aka WA Blog) is still proceeding as planned and I’ve just managed to get the dev and rough plan together during lunch today. Sometime over the weekend, our dedicated server got upgraded with PHP 5. Obviously moving from a 4.x to 5.04, there were some issues which required a few hours last night to track down and fix. Surprisingly Don’t Panik wasn’t affected, only WebAperture. Most likely due to the more extensive codebase, some even dating back to 2002 (2000 is the oldest code but most have be rewritten, improved and revised since then).

Came across some interesting news on the Photo front recently. Agfa is bankrupt (not surprising), Olympus is shedding 30% of it’s employees and recently had it’s credit status downgraded. In another similar news, Pentax too is triming it’s workforce. HP releases a funky digital camera designed by Gwen Stefani… strange. but looks like it’s for the Japanese market only. Not sure what’s up at Nikon but their imaging division seems to have been saved by their other businesses.
