I bought my EOS-300D for around US$999. Right now, a check on the shot counter shows approximately 5000 frames (If you know how to access the internal shot counter, do let me know!). I’ve spent roughly US$400 in batteries (always bring two spare!), 1.75Gb in compact flash cards (hey, CF cards are much cheaper now). And I’m about to buy a Nixvue with 60Gb of disk space for US$389. That adds up to around US$1800.

What’s the cost of 4300 frames?
In my part of the world, a roll of Kodak E100G costs about US$5.20. 5000 frames approximates to 139 rolls which will then cost me around US$722. A local professional lab I frequent charges me about US$3.00 per roll for E-6 processing and sleeving. 139 rolls will cost me about US$417. Quite easily, the total US$1139 exceeds the cost of the camera already… and it’s just six months old!
